Global「Global + Local」

Tsukuba Global(Tsukuba Global+ is a university-wide Leadership Education Program starting in 2020. Students who fulfill the requirements for completing the program will be presented with a Tsukuba Global+ Certificate of Completion.

In which emerging countries are you interested? Global+ is a combination of global and local. Here, “Local” refers to the emerging countries in which each student in this program is interested.

  • Global

    In the program, students will aim to acquire comprehensive and in-depth education that is fundamental to global activities, interdisciplinary knowledge regarding global challenges, and strong communication skills using English as the global language.

  • Local

    With deeper knowledge of the cultures, societies, and economies of emerging countries, students will acquire leadership skills to drive them by understanding the needs, building human networks in local languages, and contributing to solving local problems.

「Four Initiatives in Global+ Leadership Education」

Challenges faced by humanity, such as efforts for peacebuilding and multicultural coexistence, overcoming discrimination and economic disparity, and dealing with environmental issues, are becoming more complex with rapid globalization. To tackle this situation, students in the Tsukuba Global+ program will aim to learn through the integration of humanities and sciences and acquire glocal (global + local) leadership through the following four initiatives.

1. Interdisciplinary knowledge of global challenges and emerging countries
・Global challenges subjects (2 credits)
・Global South subjects (2 credits)
・Area studies subjects (2 credits)
2. Practical proficiency in English and local languages
・Online English lecture (1 session)
・Local language studies (3 credits)
3. Local experience through short-term overseas training in emerging countries
・Short-term training program in the chosen emerging country (includes studying abroad or an overseas internship)
4. International knowledge through public lectures by external experts
・Public lectures by lecturers from organizations like the United Nations, and international NGOs.
